Upper Coomera State College (UCSC) offers a wide variety of exciting opportunities for students to engage in extra-curricular music activities across both the primary school and secondary school.
Queensland School Music
Instrumental Music
The Instrumental Music teachers at UCSC are Ms Renee Wheeler, Ms Stephanie Williams and Mr Shceerle. Ms Wheeler teaches all band instruments including brass, woodwind and percussion. Ms Williams teaches violin, viola, cello and double bass. Mr Scheerle teachers percussion and runs the drumline.
All students in the Instrumental program receive a half hour group lesson once a week at a set time during the school day. Students are required to be punctual and organised, ensuring they bring all the required equipment. All students are also required to attend one ensemble rehearsal each week, including: Intermediate concert band; Senior string ensemble; Junior string ensemble, Junior concert band and drumline.
All students entering the program must commit for a minimum of 1 year. Attendance at lessons, rehearsal and performances is essential. There is a levy that all students must pay, which covers buses, entries, band uniform, music.
Choir
Primary students have the opportunity to join the Choir, which is led by our Music Specialist Teacher, Mr Lewerissa and Mr Wong-See. As a member of the Choir, students will have the opportunity to perform in the following:
- The Singing Spectacular 'Music Count us in'
- Eisteddfods
- Performances at Awards Nights
- Performances in College Musicals and Productions
Students are required to audition at the start of each year, and then attend weekly rehearsals with the choir teachers. As part of their commitment to the choir, students are also asked to attend the performances above. All choir students will also be required to pay a levy, which covers bus costs, choir uniform and hair accessory, sheet music and badges.
College Performances
UCSC also holds events throughout the year that students are invited to be involved in. Auditions are usually required, and this information is distributed leading up to each event.
Examples of events include:
