Upper Coomera State College (UCSC) is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school.
PBL is a whole-school framework which helps schools to create positive learning environments. This is achieved by developing proactive systems to define, teach, and support appropriate student behaviours.
Data shows that when PBL is implemented with integrity it helps reduce problem behaviour and increase academic performance. Principals have also reported decreases in referrals of students, allowing time saved to be invested into other areas of school business.
Through PBL, schools implement evidence-based approaches to managing student behaviour and support issues at the local community level. With an emphasis on data-based decision-making, the framework is evaluated regularly and practices are adjusted to make sure the process is achieving effective results for schools.
Here at UCSC our whole school approach shapes, supports and recognises appropriate behaviours in all students. Ninety-five percent of students will have little or no difficulties with the routines and expectations of our community. Whole school behaviour support procedures and processes at UCSC apply to all students and staff across all settings.
Our expectations are to Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. Through the PBL framework, we explicitly teach an expectation weekly and encourage participation from parents in engaging with students in conversations and worksheets to promote our school values.
