Upper Coomera State College Junior Secondary School consists of year 7, 8 and 9.
We understand transition into secondary school can
sometimes be daunting, so junior secondary has an extensive transition
program for current UCSC students and neighbouring primary schools to ensure students are supported and ready for secondary school life.
Programs such as Student Enrichment Activities, clinics and workshops, and
information evenings allow students to meet college staff and
familiarise themselves with the school and subjects on offer.
Students in year 7 are taught by teachers from the same learning community. This provides a level of consistency and connectedness for students. Students have the same teacher for maths/science and English/history. This allows teachers to develop close working relationships with students and families during this first crucial stage of secondary school. In year 8 & 9 students stay in the same cohort for the main key subject areas allowing a small group of teachers to get to know the students and their learning and social needs.
In Junior Secondary School your child is provided innovative, academically challenging and inspiring learning pathway taught by teachers that have displayed outstanding pedagogy and the ability to push students to perform to their highest ability.
Junior Secondary and Year 10
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is responsible for the development of the national curriculum, administration of national assessments and associated reporting on schooling in Australia. ACARA provides curriculum from Prep to Year 12. Teachers at Upper Coomera State College directly use Australian Curriculum to plan and deliver units of work and assessment from Prep to Year 10.
