The Upper Coomera State College Sports Academy supports passionate student-athletes from Years 7 to 12 through a structured and inclusive pathway. Whether students are developing their skills or are training at an elite level, this Academy nurtures growth, performance, and wellbeing— on and off the field.
The Sports Academy combines physical training with theoretical knowledge to provide a well-rounded sports education. Students in the Sports Academy participate in both practical sessions and targeted lessons designed to enhance their understanding of performance, health, andleadership in sport.
We offer specialised programs in:
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Netball
- Touch Football
The College partners with leading organisations such as the Gold Coast Academy of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport’s online training portal to enhance student development with each program led by experienced coaches and designed to foster both athletic and academic success.
Key Objectives
The goal of the Sports Academy is to:
- provide expert coaching and skill development in chosen sports
- support students in balancing training with academic expectations
- create pathways to regional, state, and national competitions
- build leadership, resilience, and self-discipline through sport
- connect students with opportunities through sporting organisations and tertiarypartner
Program Structure
Sports Development (Years 7-9)
This entry-level program focuses on students with a strong interest in sport. It includes structured, skill-based sessions during school hours, targeting fitness, technical development, teamwork, and game play.
The emphasis is on building the core abilities needed to progress into higher-level sporting pathways.
Sports Excellence (Year 7-12)
This advanced stream is tailored for high-performing student-athletes ready to commit to an elite training environment.
The program includes:
- specialised coaching in the student’s chosen sport
- strength and conditioning training
- access to expert mentors and guest coaches
- leadership development and wellbeing support

Students may choose to apply for all Academy Programs or one stand-alone Academy Program.
Applications for Academy Programs are considered in three parts:
1. Written application
2. Report Card- level of achievement, effort, behaviour, and attendance
3. Trial or audition (by invitation only, as required)
Existing Upper Coomera State College students are not required to complete
step 1 and step 2 of the application process.
Academy Programs applications are open to students living both inside and outside the catchment area for Upper Coomera State College.
Scholarships:
Upper Coomera State College offers scholarships to students who exemplify initiative, drive and success in Academics, Sport, Creative Arts and STEM.
Scholarships are awarded to those students already successful in their application and who are achieving well above the standard for their year level in academics, behaviour and effort.
At the Principals discretion, scholarships may also be awarded to UCSC students who achieve outstanding results during a full calendar year.
