UCSC is committed to providing every student with personalised learning opportunities. To extend high achieving students and to build a culture of academic excellence, our secondary school has introduced a targeted program: Extension Masterclasses and QCS Master Classes for our senior students, which are delivered by Mighty Minds.
UCSC also provides support programs prep to year 12 in the areas of literacy and numeracy for those students needing extra support. This ensures all of our students have the tools and skills necessary to be successful in their chosen learning pathway.
Aligned with the College motto, ‘Learning Pathways to the Future’, the College established an innovative Education and Career Planning Program (ECP) 7-12 in 2012. ECP includes an extensive career education pathways program, delivered by trained teachers, in the lead up to an ECP interview, providing opportunities for five staff to engage with parents/carers and students in meaningful conversations about each student’s education, pathways and career goals. Every student 7-12 has an individual education and career plan which is tracked and adjusted each year.
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is responsible for the development of the national curriculum, administration of national assessments and associated reporting on schooling in Australia. ACARA provides curriculum from Prep to Year 12. Teachers at Upper Coomera State College directly use Australian Curriculum to plan and deliver units of work and assessment from Prep to Year 10.
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has developed syllabuses from the Australian Curriculum for schools to use to plan and deliver units of work and assessment for students in Years 11 and 12. Syllabuses are referred to as either General or Applied. QCAA are also responsible for issuing eligible students with their Queensland Certificate of Education upon successful completion of Year 12 studies.
