In Term 1, Year 4 students will apply a variety of Mathematical concepts in Mathematical situations. The topics covered in Term 1 are:
- Number and Place Value
- Chance and Date
Assessment
Students will demonstrate their learning by completing assessment tasks on the following Mathematical concepts:
- Number facts of addition, subtraction and multiplication
- Number Properties and Patterns
- Chance and Date
English
This term students will apply a variety of language features and devices in analytical and creative situations. The topics covered in Term 1 are:
- Poetry – Wacky Word Play
- Narrative Writing – The Twits
Assessment
Students will demonstrate their leaning by using their analytical skills to deconstruct and understand the associated poetic devices of a selected poem. Students will also be focusing on using the ‘Seven Steps to Writing’ to develop and create their own chapter that will follow the themes of the Ronald Dahl novel “The Twits.”
Science
This term students will be exploring the effects of human activity, natural disasters & extreme weather that causes weathering & erosion of the earth’s surface.
Assessment
Students will demonstrate their learning by identifying weathering and erosion, providing solutions to the process and address the issue of erosion within the school environment.
History
This term students will be studying the arrival of the First Fleet to Australia from the point of view of European settlers, the reasons behind their arrival and life after colonisation.
Assessment
Students will demonstrate their learning by identifying key events and place them on a timeline and research information to construct an accurate convict profile. Students will also construct a historical narrative explain the journey of an individual involved in the first fleet.
