UCSC STEM Academy - STEM Excellence Program

Students learning scientific experimentation

The Upper Coomera State College (UCSC) STEM Academy STEM Excellence Program is an innovative, academically challenging and inspiring learning pathway for those students who excel academically, specifically in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

As a STEM Excellence student you will have access to leading tertiary providers, government and industry, so you are actively engaged in rigorous, unique and enriching curriculum. Upon completion of this program you will be equipped for extending your pathway into the 21st century through the application of acquired STEM capabilities.

This program is part of the STEM Academy offerings, and provides a tailored STEM pathway from year 5 onwards into secondary school and on to university.

As a STEM Excellence student you are provided the following pathway:

Junior School STEM Excellence Program

The Junior STEM Excellence program is on offer for students who excel academically specifically in STEM, who possess excellent creativity and innovation. Students are together throughout the day with one core teacher. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics based lessons will feature heavily in their learning including being integrated into their traditional English lessons. Students are required to have their own device to participate in this class.

This program then leads directly into the Senior School STEM Excellence Program and the opportunity to apply for Scholarships.

Secondary School STEM Excellence Program

Successful students will be in this class for all of their core subjects (English, History, Science and Mathematics).

Teachers selected for these classes have displayed outstanding pedagogy and the ability to push students to perform to their highest ability.

Once students reach senior secondary school, they have the opportunity to apply for the Senior Secondary STEM Excellence Programs, opening up tailored STEM pathways, depending on their chosen career path.

As part of the Senior Secondary STEM Academy, you will become an enrolled Griffith University student. This opportunity will enable you to work closely with university academics, government and industry specialists. Furthermore, UCSC STEM Academy teachers exhibit superior subject knowledge and outstanding pedagogy to support students in reaching their optimal potential.

The UCSC STEM Academy has strong links with leading tertiary providers, opening up the doors to Direct Entry programs such as GriffChem and GriffPhys.
