Fountas & Pinnell in action
UCSC has recently become a Lighthouse school for ‘Fountas and Pinnell’; which is a fantastic literacy intervention program that UCSC is using to support students from Prep - Year 10.
Secondary staff worked with the junior school this week to host 25 teachers from visiting schools around the region for our first inaugural Fountas & Pinnell Lighthouse Day. Our Learning Support team did an amazing job of showcasing how we use the Levelled Literacy Intervention program to build and develop the reading skills of our students. Our students were fantastic and maintained participation in their groups, despite being watched by up to 15 adults at a time! Many visitors commented on how well behaved and engaged the students were.
So far the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Intervention program has shown significant improvements in student's reading and comprehension skills, their fluency, writing and spelling. A noticeable improvement has been seen by students in the early years, with some already working towards reaching year level achievement standards.
We were very happy to showcase the fantastic work our STL&Ns and CSOs do every day to improve student outcomes and hope that our practices will assist other teachers within the region. These visitors were very impressed by the enthusiasm, participation and behaviour of all the students involved! They truly did UCSC proud!
We look forward to again, sharing our Fountas and Pinnell journey with other teachers in region, in the coming months.
