Future Entrepreneurs Learn from the Best

19/05/2017

Starting off Term 1 of 2017, the UCSC STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy, consisting of students who show outstanding skill and success in the STEM areas, were rewarded with the privileged visit of Professor Sushila Chang (Dean of Academics at Griffith University).

She had provided the students with an informative workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” which was based off of her past experiences.

Sushila had covered and thoroughly explained topics such as copyright, patents and trademark, which refers to the protection of ideas. She had mentioned how these areas where very important for the students to understand in order to have all of their creations and ideas to remain as their own, without it being stolen.

Sushila had hoped to inspire and help all of us by sharing advice.

“I encourage the STEM Academy students to network with others and never give up, to not be fearful of failure but to be curious,” Sushila said.

“Sushila has definitely had an impact on the students since her visit, she had opened their eyes to all of the different possibilities, which is something they can profit from.” Head of Department of STEM, Julia Cullen said.

"It is remarkable how Sushila continues to share her story to help young aspiring people succeed. She is a great role model and inspiration for the minds of our future, that dream to create something which can become the next big thing," said Mrs Cullen.
